Reflection

The railway carriage is full.

On the opposite seat
A girl looks out into twilight,
The darkening sky
Shows her reflection
In the window
Perfectly.

I stare in admiration at
The mirror girl.

Raindrops patter
On the pane,
Landing gently on
The echo of her gaze.

Rolling down the glass,
Pearls of water
Give the impression
She is crying.

Alarmed,
My glance checks
The original portrait,
To find it looking back
At me.

In recognition,
With surprise,
I note the salt-rain
Well in her eyes.
