The lilac bridge

My spectacles broke last week. I was polishing them and the bridge snapped. In fact, I was polishing them with a lens cloth with a Smarties design, which my mother gave me last Christmas. I didn't appreciate it then, but I appreciate it now.

The optician was helpful but apologetic. He could not get a part of the correct colour, so I need to wait four weeks for the correctly coloured bridge. No problem, I said, mended glasses perched proudly on nose.

Next week I have to give a presentation in Copenhagen. I will emphasise the importance of attention to detail in technical writing. I will polish my spectacles with a Smarties-patterned lens cloth. And the bridge of my glasses will be lilac.
